Demo Videos from our lab

This page is about our single-shot videos, in which we try to capture the essence our projects in a continuous and largely improvised live demonstration. If you are searching for our lab's youtube channel, go here.

UIST 2025: single-shot video with three papers (live demo)

(Check our UIST 2025 playlist with all the talks, videos, etc.)

Fun fact: You hear Bruno Felaga at the start with the clapper say "take two", so what happened to take 1? Well, we actually liked the first take more than this one but during the first take the camera stopped recording after a few minutes—so this is the first take we could see!

CHI 2025: single-shot video with four papers and a lab tour in 5-min (live demos)

(Check our CHI 2025 playlist with all the talks, videos, etc.)

Fun fact: We attempted to make a 5-minute, we did this take (entirely improvised), and when we went to review the footage: it was exactly 5 minutes and two seconds—we were really excited we got it instinctively. Also, this was our first video with a camera stabilizer, Romain was walking around the lab to give a feeling of a lab tour. Finally, besides being improvised, this one even features a program glitch—our piano python script crashes at the last note of the muscle stimulation, and Yun restarts it just in time for Pedro to play again with the muscle stimulation—well done Yun!

UIST 2024: single-shot video with two new papers (live-demos)

(Check our UIST 2024 playlist with all the talks, videos, etc.)

CHI 2024: single-shot video with four new papers (live demos)

(Check our CHI 2024 playlist with all the talks, videos, etc.)

Fun fact: Despite all the improvisation we do, we usually get the video in the first or second take, however, as you can hear Jas say in the start as they hold the clapper, this was "take 6". Turns out, we needed six takes to get a take without any major hand tracking glitches!

UIST 2023: single-shot video with five new papers (live demos)

(Check our UIST 2023 playlist with all the talks, videos, etc.)

Fun fact: It was the first time we had to go on the floor and move the camera to demo one of our projects! That was a lot of fun, and we even got it on the first take (all improvised as always).

CHI 2023: single-shot video with four new papers (live-demos)

(Check our CHI 2023 playlist with all the talks, videos, etc.)

UIST 2022: single-shot video with our four new papers (live-demos)

(Check our playlist with all the talks, videos, etc.)

CHI 2022: single-shot video with our head-actuation live demo

(Check our playlist with the talk for head-actuation, as well as a demo video and the TOCHI paper we presented at CHI 22)

Fun fact: This video was the first time we went all out on live-demonstrations in a single take (i.e., the devices are powered, and the demos are running). We also switched to shooting these videos in the lab, and the script went from most-improvised to completely-improvised! Until this date, this is how we shoot videos.

UIST 2021: single-shot video with our three papers (our first live-demos)

(Check our playlist with all the talks, videos, etc.)

Fun fact: This video was the first time Pedro showcased the devices in a single-take! We liked this a lot and we kept doing this!

CHI 2021: introduction and summary of our seven papers

(Check our playlist with all the talks, videos, etc.)

CHI 2020: introduction and summary of our three papers

(Check our playlist with all the talks, videos, etc.)

Fun fact: This is the video that started it all, Pedro recorded it because ACM CHI 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID19 pandemic and we wanted to share our insights with the research community in a video manner. Unintentionally this started our practice of recording a per-conference summary video.
